What is Duplicate Detection?
Duplicate detection prevents saving multiple of the same records to a single object according to specified rules in the configuration. Without duplication rules similar records may be saved to your objects without your knowledge.
Configure a Duplication Rule
Create a New Rule:
- From the Access Control select Duplication Rules.
- Select + Add New on the Duplicate Rules table.
- Fill out all required fields for the Rule.
- Record Level Security.
Rules Description Enforce Sharing Rules Will make sure any sharing rules remain true when running duplication checks on records. Bypass Sharing Rules Overrides any sharing rules on the objects and fields. - Actions (On Create, and Edit)
Actions Description Allow Makes sure the duplication rule is running on actions. Block Does not allow the duplication rule to be applied. - Matching Rules are applied to specified fields in the chosen object
Matching Method Description Fuzzy Will look for loosely related matches in record field, more inclusive Exact Will look for exact matches in record field, more exclusive - Click Save to save your configurations.
Edit Duplication Rule:
- From the Duplication Rules list view locate the name of the Rule you wish to configure.
- Select icon on the right hand side.
- Click Save to save your configurations.
Delete a Duplication Rule
To delete a Duplication Rule:
- Open settings from the User menu.
- Select Duplication Rules from the Access Control menu.
- Search for the Rule in the list that you want to delete.
- Click the delete button. To see the delete button, you must have Delete options on the objects in one of the permission sets assigned to your user role.
